Audrey Spaulding

Hello everyone. I wanted to share with you a little bit about how I got started on The Daniel Fast. I will be starting my third week Monday, September 23 when you are just beginning.

Several weeks ago Pastor Dillon mentioned calling the church to a fast, The Daniel Fast and to “Google” it. I then found out that one of my co-workers was on it at that time and a week later discovered my supervisor was as well. Coincidence? Maybe. God speaking? Likely.  So I “Googled” it and started researching The Daniel Fast.

I felt I could do this and was ready to go, but found out Pastor wasn’t going to start it until September 23. I really did not want to wait so I began my journey on The Daniel Fast on September 9.

The one thing I can say is- don’t give up! You will be eliminating food and drink that you are use to and will feel the affects or withdrawals, especially from caffeine. I love my morning coffee. I experienced headaches for about four days. I so much wanted to take just a sip to see if it would take the headache away. But I prayed through and by the fourth day I was fine. If you are eliminating a lot of processed foods, fast foods, etc., you might throw up. Your body is eliminating all the toxins. My supervisor experienced this and felt ill for a day. She did see her doctor, which you should if you are not sure. Pray through and don’t give up.

If you have not prepared in advance of the fast, you may want to take a few days before you start and gradually take the foods and drinks away that you will be eliminating. It may help with withdrawal symptoms.

Think of what your purpose is for your fast. Where do you need guidance from the Lord? Is it your work, your church, your family/relationships, financial, spiritual? Focus on these things as you spend time in the Word and prayer.

I encourage you to journal during this time and put down your thoughts, your feelings, and even your conversations with God. Writing it down helps me focus and you have a record where you can look back and praise God for what He has done.

I will be posting daily devotionals from Susan Gregory at Daniel-Fast.com and recipes, tips, or other words of encouragement.

Remember to trust in the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind and be blessed!
